Well, after browsing the Internet and having been presented with all kind of silly solutions the best way to mount the new rubber grips came down to 3 solutions, neither of them involving glue. Solution #1 was to use compressed air and using a small nozzle force air in under the grip along the handlebar and that way mount it. It looked kind of complicated and not really reliable so then I considered solution #2 which involved hand disinfectant where the plan was that the alcohol would work as a lubricant when pushing the grips in place and then as “glue” when it evaporated. This sounded better but it did put some pressure on getting the grip on quickly or the alcohol would be gone and the grip would be stuck half way.
So I opted for solution #3 which included water with a teensy bit of dishwashing soap in it. Spread the water evenly on the handlebar and do the same thing on the inside of the rubber grips. Then you just slide the rubber grips on and Bob is your uncle.
Once in place LEAVE IT for at least one day or more so the water can evaporate and let the ribber grips seal on to the handlebar. Done deal! Pictures to show. I also pushed in a bit of silicone seal inside the handlebar as I have read it will help reduce vibrations – of which there is a lot since the time she had a brush with the tarmac. So if all is well things should soon be sorted and “WhitePearl” is once again ready for the road!
