Sad Dog project bike

Having inspected the road surface a bit too close the XJR 1300 came to a halt on the right hand side, gently wedged underneath an SUV that was in front. This resulted in some scratches, a dent in the tank, broken headlight, speedo and rev lost their housing and both sides of the handlebar bent backwards.

Having transported the old girl back to my garage I freed up all the wiring around the handlebar, enter the key and started her up. Thick white smoke and the smell of burning oil and I turned off the engine. The crankcase ventilation seemed to act like a siphon and sucked about 1 liter of engine oil straight up in to the air filter… so that has to come off.

Probably from lying on the side after the event engine oil came in to the air filter and then when I started the engine the carburettors turned the whole thing in to a pump and up came the oil. So that all has to come apart, tubes have to be cleaned/replaced, new airfilter, the housing has to be cleaned…

My hope at this point is that the carburettors are not completely filled with oil… but let’s see.

Slow down, capture the moment. The whole thing about riding motorbikes is to enjoy the moment, chill out, enjoy with friends, see nice things and have fun. Be good, do good and good things will come to you.
