Finally !

This day has been overdue for too long. I found this little yellow thing on the web and suggested it to the family with great acclamation as response. Called the dealer next day and suggested the Ducce as trade in and after an enormous ammount of haggling (me saying “OK”) we struck a deal and set a date for the hand over.

New plan – instead I would rent a trailer and stick the Ducce on it and pull the damn thing to the dealer. It would be easy, around 4 hours in the car, playing music, no airconditioning, side window stuck, risking my license since the Panda is too heavy and I am not allowed to pull anything behind it…watching all the other bikers riding out in the sun… HANGON !!!
New plan again – skip the trailer, ride the Ducce to the dealer, trade bikes, put the accessories in my backpack – Rock on !

So I got up at 6 and started the engine at 6:30 with a stiff 4 hours ride ahead of me. No need to tell you it was cold – but it was! Riding BlueBird it was clear that all the Mojo was gone. It was no more fun, just too easy to go too fast and my back hurt, and my wrists, and, and, and… So definitely time to say “thanks” for the years we have spent together and all the splendid rides we made in Austria – legendary stuff !!!

Reached the dealer with a body temperature close to freezing point. I could hardly talk with him and all the time my cold hands were shaking like the old man I now am. What a poor site. The thing that looked better was a yellow looking thing stuck in between a few other sold items and besid it a box – a rather fully loaded box containing faring, sissybar, twin seat, luggage rack, an extra tank, footpegs, etc. There was no doubt in my mind – send it by post. I’ll deal with that later.

So now it was just me, the bike and the open road – doesn’t get any better than that! The plan was – no plan – except to get home before dark. How difficult could it be, just follow the sun and see what happens. Started off on the regular road back to Gotham City but pretty soon I saw a sign that looked interresting and turned left – which would mean south. The next 2 hours were spent in a complete state of relax and enjoy just letting the road carry me where ever it went. The landscape was magnificent and hardly any cars around. Forrest, lakes, hills, more forrest, following the shoreside of another big lake, crossing some bridge, small houses here and there, occational village, open the throttle as I exit the city limit and scare some grazing animals. It just went on and on.

Later i realised that I am riding a Sportster with no fuel gague and the tank looks really small so perhaps I should stop an gas up. Could not find a gas station (except abandoned ones) for what seemed an eternity so when I finally arrived at one I thought the thing must be riding on fumes. Stopped at a pump, opened the gas tank and peeked inside – still stuff there and I had not even switched to reserve…. chicken !  So I let the pump have it’s way with the bike and managed to squeeze in just over 5 litres at a total cost of 75 Swedish Pesetas. I had to laugh again - so much fun at litterally no cost. Brilliant !!!

Alingsås, Härryda, Öijared, Floda, Lerum, Härryda, Hindås, Sätila, Väröbacka, Träslövsläge, Tvååker, Morup, Heberg, Getinge… and now my bum was getting seriously numb and as soon as I stopped there was a constant ring in my right ear… 2 open pipes on one side… wohaaa!! Legs getting numb and my brain provided me with the attention span of a gold fish – I was feeling soo happy!!!  True freedom only comes through a bit of pain. There was NO WAY I could think of anything else than to get through the pain som my brain was clensed of all other thoughts. Problems were gone and freedon took its place. YEA !!!

Once I stopped back home the family all gather round to slute the brave rider and welcome the new family member. Martin immediately took a liking to the bike so now I really need the 2-up saddle, but it should be here in a few days. Next up I drove past Duang’s trailed and ended the day with a splendid specially made Panaeng Gai. The sun slowly setting, the bike leaning on the stand dripping a bit of oil just to show there is still some left in the engine. Perfect end to a perfect day!

Rawhide !!!
